The 1970’s was a decade of change, and the needs of people turning to the Travelers Aid Society reflected those changes. People were not only in need of help getting from one place to another or having a safe place to stay when they were stuck in their travels. Now there were many individuals who also needed mental and emotional support, and there was an increase in people struggling with substance use. The Travelers’ Aid Society took these new challenges in stride and expanded their programs to connect with partner agencies to provide the support people needed. Towards the end of the decade it was reported that staff and volunteers of Travelers’ Aid Society assisted over 33,000 people.
