The expansion of services that began in the 1970’s increased exponentially in the 1980’s. With no emergency shelter services in Salt Lake City, Travelers’ Aid Society began utilizing structures called Quonset Huts and trailer homes to provide emergency shelter to five to six families at any given time. In 1987, Travelers’ Aid Society was asked to operate the first community shelter program. And on November 18, 1988 we dedicated the opening of the Salt Lake Community Shelter and Resource Center for single men.
