Candlelight Vigil

December 20, 2012

Each year, we come together to remember the men and women we have lost to life on the street during the Homeless Persons' Memorial and Candlelight Vigil. This year's vigil will be Thursday, Dec. 20 at 5:30 p.m. at Pioneer Park. On the darkest day of the year, we honor those who are no longer with us and recommit ourselves to providing life saving resources to the men, women, and families in our community who are struggling with homelessness.

Guest speakers will include Pamela Atkinson, a community advocate dedicated to helping Utahns overcome homelessness and poverty. Thursday's vigil is sponsored by the Salt Lake County Homeless Coordinating Council, who advocates on behalf of homeless persons by coordinating services, sharing information, and increasing public awareness.

Hosting partners include: Ashby Home Health, Fourth Street Clinic, Catholic Community Services, Volunteers of America, Utah, Crossroads Urban Center, St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Valley Mental Heath, Rescue Mission, and The Road Home.

The Road Home is committed to providing emergency shelter to each person who turns to us for help. Our supportive services create an environment where overcoming homelessness and steping back into our community are real possibilities. We do not turn people away from shelter, especially during the coldest nights of the year. Our team works tirelessly to ensure each man, woman, or family who turns to us has a safe warm place to stay. We remember with love those we have lost and continue to take meaningful action in preventing the loss of life due to homelessness.
